About the role
Piercers work in a dedicated room inside a tattoo studio or in a standalone piercing shop. The role is high volume and walk-in heavy compared with tattooing, and jewellery sales are usually part of the earnings.
Piercing roles carry their own licensing, sterilisation, and jewellery-sourcing requirements.

What you’ll be doing
- Piercing, jewellery fitting, downsizing and checks
- Sterilisation, autoclave logs and single-use handling
- Consent, medical screening and aftercare for every client
- Jewellery stock control and client aftercare follow-up
What studios ask for
- Piercing-specific licensing and bloodborne pathogen certification
- Experience with implant-grade jewellery and anatomy-appropriate placement
- First aid where required locally
Pay
Commonly a commission on the piercing fee plus a share of jewellery sales, or an hourly rate in busier walk-in shops.
