Not while it's healing. Submerging an open wound in a pool, the sea or a hot tub is the one aftercare rule almost every studio agrees on. How long that means for you depends on your healing, so ask your artist.

Not medical advice. Always follow the aftercare instructions your artist gives you — they know your skin, the ink and the wrap they used. Why water is the problem

Submersion softens scabs and healing skin, which can lift ink out. Chlorine and salt water irritate an open wound. Pools, lakes and hot tubs also carry bacteria that healthy skin shrugs off but a fresh tattoo doesn't.

How long to wait

Long enough for the tattoo to be genuinely healed, not just closed on the surface. That varies by person, size and placement, so get the answer from the artist who did the work rather than a generic number online.
