How to Book Tattoo Consultations Online

Consultations are where custom work is won or wasted. Booked properly they take twenty minutes and end with a date and a deposit. Booked badly they eat an afternoon and produce nothing.
Gather the brief up front
The consult should start with the artist already informed. Your booking form should ask for the idea, style, placement, size, reference images, budget range and availability before the meeting happens.
Choose the format by the job
Different pieces need different consults.
- Video: out-of-town clients, straightforward placements, quick feasibility checks
- In person: cover-ups, scar work, large wraps, anything where you need to see and measure the skin
- Async: for simple flash adaptations, a couple of messages and a quote is faster than either
Keep it to a fixed block
Give consults their own session type — 20 or 30 minutes — with its own calendar block so they never eat into tattooing time. Cap how many run in a week.
Decide whether to charge
Free consults are the norm and lower the barrier. If they're consuming your week, charge a small fee that's redeemable against the tattoo — it filters out browsing without punishing serious clients.
Always close in the room
A consult that ends with "I'll message you" mostly ends there. Finish by agreeing the scope and the price range, putting a date in the calendar, and taking the deposit before they leave or hang up.
